Sweet Little Furry Surprise

She’s sweet, cute and altogether a little energy ball. It’s been a month since we found our new little furry surprise. I can’t believe I’m just now writing about it.

Her name is Priscilla Lemon Bowman. Also known as WeeWee.

It was late one evening and I opened the back door to our deck. That’s when I spotted her. Within 5 minutes Aaron had captured her. She made a really sad kitty cry so we gave her a small bowl of milk. This is the night Priscilla become part of our family.

Since then she has adjusted well to Rhett, Ellen and Oscar and thankfully they have adjusted well to her. (Ellen thinks she’s the mother)  She absolutely loves attention and odd enough – cuddles!

We weren’t expecting a fur baby! But we’re so glad Priscilla Lemon found us!

Note – since then that night we have found/captured 2 more kittens. They will soon have a new home!!

Week Vibes

Yesterday we spent all morning and early afternoon picking for Classic Cottage Co. then I took a MUCH needed LONG nap. Meanwhile Aaron worked on recording some new tunes. Btw, can’t wait for y’all to hear what he’s about to release!!

Week Vibes

Happy Sunday! The Summer is flying by. In fact, Aaron and I just booked a quick Summer getaway a few hours ago!! Yesssssss!!

June was good to us. After my sister left town last Sunday, I had the Monday blues. So I threw myself into work and reading books as hard as I could to get my mind off missing my sisters. I was determined to end June with a big bang business wise & it paid off. Classic Cottage ended June strong.

Other Highlights

• Aaron made good progress on our powder room downstairs.

• I finished one of the best books I’ve read in the past year. It’s called Before We Were Yours by Lisa Wingate. The story captivated me and I 100% recommend it. & Click here to order your copy.

World Market is having an awesome 4th of July Sale.

• We tried an awesome new hash brown breakfast casserole. Click here to check it out.

• Been loving this comfy crop top around the house.

• Aaron wrote a new song.

•We’re addicted to the Handmaid’s Tale on Hulu.

• Click here to see what else I’ve been reading.

Week Vibes

Happy Sunday evening!

The hugest highlight of my week was seeing my older sister Kayla and her family. Kayla lives 12 hours away so this is a rare occasion. She also brought her 8 month old daughter, Emmy Kay. It’s been an incredible week.

Other Highlights

• Aaron played at the Mason Jar in Auburn last Saturday night!

• We found two more kittens. Yep, our little kitten has brothers. We’re in the process of finding homes for the other two babies.

• Emmy Kay (my niece) came to Alabama for the first time. She had her very first taste of Auburn’s specialty, lemonade from Toomer’s Drugs.

September Ocean is a watercolor artwork shop. Aubrey (the store owner) sent over a portrait of Aaron and I. It’s absolutely beautiful! Such a pleasure working with Aubrey on this project!

• I discovered the power of a new skincare product I’ve heard people rave about for years now. I tried Philosophy for the first time! The Good Morning Sunshine shower gel was amazing.

• We had a girl’s night! Kelbee (lil sister) and Kayla spent the night and Kelbee made us try anti-aging facial masks. 😂

Having my sister and her family in Alabama was amazing. It brightened my June and my heart is full. Thank you for reading our weekly Week Vibes!

Bathroom Project Update

We recently began working on our powder room downstairs. All of our home improvement projects are paid out of pocket as we go and our time is limited. So, you can imagine our projects are a tad bit slow moving..

So far, we’ve been able to work on the powder room one weekend and we got a good bit done!!

N E W    S I N K

It’s not exactly a new sink.. more like a new to us one-of-a-kind custom design sink. Using an old authentic white farm sink. We’ll talk more on this later!

We added beadboard to the back wall and painted the walls white. The paint color was previously creamy yellow. The white really opens the space up nicely.

Yep. This was totally a surprise. I grabbed a sharp edge (something that looks like a putty knife) and a spray bottle of water. Next, I started scraping. I don’t want to write too much about this since I haven’t completely finished the entire project.. (still needs primer and paint) I will say, it’s VERY messy. More to come soon!

& that’s all! The whole vision hasn’t been accomplished but it will be one day! We have a few more fun plans for the room so stay tuned!

My Keurig Days Are Over

Never thought I’d say it but my Keurig days are indeed over. Keurig is one of the rmain reasons I began drinking coffee. My mom bought me a Keurig for Christmas 2013. She said it was from my “hot chocolate”.. One thing led to another, then I began dating Mr. Coffee Lover and now I can’t live without it.

It began with Aaron. He no longer liked the taste on Keurig coffee. A year later, I started noticing a plastic-y taste. I much preferred coffee from a restaurant or coffee shop. It just tasted so much better.

Between the two of us it was nothing to use 4 k-cups a day. You don’t really realize how much that adds to your grocery bill.

Hot water and plastic make me feel like I’m drinking chemicals.

Even though we spray our house regularly, the occasional bug still wanders in. One morning, I opened the top of my Keurig to insert the k-cup & there was a black bug in the top where the K-cup goes. Yep. Worse part, the bug crawled into the Keurig to where I couldn’t get it. After this, I no longer used my Keurig.

Which brings me to my next point, how clean can we truly get it?

M Y   S O L L U T I O N

I bought a kettle and dripper to make pour over. It takes a little extra time but the coffee taste MUCH better! It’s also saving on my weekly grocery bill. I can clean/rinse out the dripper daily. I have a new routine. I heat up the kettle as I’m unloading my dishwasher in the morning then just pour the hot water over my favorite blend.

I’m going to link the kettle and dripper I bought. If you’re wanting something faster I’m also going to link some more options.

Week Vibes

Another weekly catch up! This week was fairly quiet around Le’ Bowman house. Over the last weekend we worked on the powder room downstairs. Still have a good ways to go but it’s already looking nice!

Other Highlights

• We said goodbye to May. Ha, I think it’s safe to say Summer is officially unofficially here!

• I said bye bye to my Keurig and bought a kettle and dripper for pour over coffee.. might I add the dripper is SEXXAY!

• We (I) ate lots of fresh cherries this week.

• I finished the book YOU THINK IT, I’LL SAY IT. It was different/weird but I gotta admit, each story kept my attention.

• I began a new phycological thriller Sometimes I Lie. I’ll keep you updated!

• Aaron’s album Distant released last weekend. You can find it on Spotify, Goggle Music, iTunes and Amazon. Check it out!!

That’s a wrap for this week! Hope you’re enjoying your Sunday!

Comparing Springs… Ups & Downs

I mentioned in a post published on New Years that my business struggled last Spring. Now that it’s the first of June, I think it’s safe to compare Spring of 2017 to Spring of 2018. I truly hope this post brings you encouragement.

(Throughout this post you’ll see pictures from the early days)

Last Spring I nearly gave up on my business. I built this business from $0.25 items at yard sales. Truthfully, it was a steady build. Then Spring of 2017 came and my sales STOPPED.

(Classic’s Opening Day. Not the best quality pic, sorry)

Oh no! Nothing was selling. Looking back, I had made some bad buys and lost money. Not to mention, it felt like the antique mall was slow. I didn’t have much money at all to reinvest for the months to come.

I remember telling Aaron I was going to have to call my former boss and get my job at the hair salon back. After investing everything (not that I had much to invest), I had failed. But this mindset only lasted so long.

Aaron told me you can never judge a success within one year. Long story short, thankfully he bailed me out. (I still owe you, babe)

I was determined. During that time Classic Cottage only had one location and was in a smaller booth. I remember rearranging the space nearly everyday. I looked around my house for items to sell (Maybe I’ll tell you more about that later). We didn’t give up.

Things began to turn around. Shortly after, during the Summer of 2017, we expanded again and then we added another location.

Fast forward a year later, May 1st we expanded yet again and it takes both Aaron and I to keep Classic Cottage stocked. If you had told me this a year ago, I wouldn’t have believed you. Will there be more lows? Yes. Will I push through as I have before? Yes. There will always be lower/slower months. You just have to plan and push.

(The first time I stepped back for a look after one of our expansions)

I truly hope this encourages you to chase your dreams and never give up.

xoxo,

Karlee Bowman
